RIP Chrome Apps: Google Shuts Down Chrome Apps From Web Store

Back in August of last year, Google had announced that they are working on a plan to shut down Chrome Apps. Today, the section dealing with apps has been removed from the Chrome Web Store.
Chrome Apps have been around for over four years now. Google had originally launched them to bridge the gap between some things that were not possible on the web back then – these included the likes of working offline and sending notifications among others. These features were a thing of novelty back in 2014, but in 2017 most of these features are now a part of the browser.
Chrome Apps now seem almost redundant as there’s no unique use left for them. Most users tend to overlook them and for a handful of users who still make use of these apps, these features can be easily replaced by the Google Chrome browser itself, thanks to newer, powerful APIs and Progressive Web Apps.
Goodbye Chrome Apps! It was good while it lasted.
