3 Ways To View Saved Network Passwords on Android

By default, Android phones save all the network passwords they are connected to and let you automatically connect whenever you are near a saved network. Even though it’s easy to automatically connect to an already saved network, but what if you want to know the exact password of the network?
Maybe you forgot your own WiFi password or want to share the WiFi password of your favorite cafe with a friend. Whatever your reasoning may be, there are multiple ways to view saved WiFi passwords on Android. Today, I will show you 3 ways to view saved network passwords on Android in an easy step-by-step guide.
By Scanning QR code
if you have an Android device running Android version 10 or above, then this method is the easiest for you. Make sure your phone is running on Android 10 or above by browsing the settings of your phone and go to the About device section. After that, just follow these steps one by one.
Open settings and search for the “Network and Internet” option.
Tap on Wi-Fi to see all available networks.
Tap on the name of the connected network to open its details.
Now, tap on the Share button.
Confirm your identity using fingerprint, pin, or passcode.
Scan QR code using other device’s QR code scanner.
By doing this, the complete details about the network will be shared on the other device. On some Android phones, you might get the password just below the QR code. So, you can also check it there before scanning it with any other device.
Use a File manager app (Root required)
If your phone isn’t running on Android 10 and is also rooted, you can use a third-party File manager app to access the root directory to view the passwords.
You should download and install a File manager app that can access all root folders of your device, like X-plore File Manager. After this, just follow these steps to get the password.
Open the file manager and look for /data/misc/wifi directory
Under this path, look for the wpa_supplicant.conf file
Open that file in a text format using the built-in viewer
In the file, you will get SSID and PSK details
SSID will be the name of your network and PSK will be the password to connect with that network. You can easily look for your desired network from the entire list and save the details for later use.
From router settings
Another efficient way to extract the saved network password on Android is via the settings page of the router. For this, you have to make sure that you know the username and password to log in to the router’s settings. Usually, the username is “admin” and the password is also “admin” or something simple like “12345”.
Furthermore, you can also check your router’s back where you will get details like username, password, and IP address. If that doesn’t work, you can talk to your ISP to get the exact details. After getting these details, follow the below steps precisely.
Go to the browser and type your router’s IP address in the search bar, it will look something like 192.168.XX.X.
Type username and password to log in.
Check for the Wireless option in the left bar menu.
Tap on Wireless and then on Security.
Scroll down the page and go to manual setup AP.
Look for WPA/WAPI paraphrase.
Tap on the “Click here to display” button.
With these simple steps, you can get access to the entire router’s settings including the password.
Final Verdict
By following the above methods, you can easily view the saved network passwords from your Android device. If the first method works for you, then it’s definitely the easiest one. Otherwise, the third method is most practical as it doesn’t require you to have a rooted phone.
