View Others WhatsApp Status on Android Without Them Knowing

You can publish your status on WhatsApp for your friends and family to see. Not only that, but you can also track if any of your friends have opened your status or not. Although it’s a great feature, it can be problematic if you don’t want the person who updated the status to know that you have seen their status.

If you want to read the status of someone but don’t want them to know that you have read, then there are a few ways to do it. In this post, I am going to list 3 ways to view the status of others without them finding out.

We won’t be using any third-party apps made for this purpose as they may contain malware. You can follow all the below-mentioned methods on your Android phone without needing third-party apps.

Disable read receipt

The read receipt feature allows you to see when a person has read your message or they can see when you have read their message. Interestingly, this feature applies to WhatsApp status as well, so you can disable read receipt to prevent others from knowing that you have read their status.

Unfortunately, this also comes with the drawback of being unable to see when others read your status or messages. If you don’t want that, then only temporarily disable read receipt and enable it when you are done viewing the status.

Here’s how to disable read receipt in Whatsapp:

From the top-right menu, select “Settings” and then tap on “Account”.

Now tap on “Privacy” and disable the toggle button next to the “Read receipts” option.

That’s it, you can now freely see the status of anyone without them finding out. Just make sure you undo these changes afterward if you want to see read receipts again.

Use Airplane Mode

Airplane mode is very useful for viewing things offline without servers tracking the changes. Thankfully, this works with WhatsApp as well because the status is pre-downloaded when you access the status tab, so you can access it even offline. Here’s what you need to do:

Open up WhatsApp and move to the status tab. Here wait for 5-10 seconds and then swipe down to open the notifications panel and tap on the “Airplane” icon to enable Airplane mode.

Now go and view the status you want to view. When you are done, close WhatsApp and remove it from the recent apps list as well. You can then disable Airplane mode and use WhatsApp as usual and the user will not know that you have viewed their status.

Use a file manager

As WhatsApp pre-downloads the status when you access the status tab, you can view the downloaded status outside of WhatsApp so WhatsApp can’t track read receipt. You’ll need a file manager that can access hidden files on the phone to access the status. Most third-party file managers do support this feature, but many Android phones today come with Files by Google built-in which supports this feature.

If your phone doesn’t have Files by Google built-in, then you can easily download it from the link above. Here’s how to use Files by Google to view WhatsApp status:

First, you need to enable the “Show hidden files” option in Files by Google. Click on the main menu at the top-left corner and select “Settings”. Here scroll down and enable the “Show hidden files” option.

Now open the status tab in WhatsApp to let the status download. Afterward, open Files by Google and tap on “Internal storage” at the very bottom.

Here go to the “WhatsApp” folder and then tap on “Media”.

I think using the Airplane mode is the fastest method to view WhatsApp status without others finding out. You won’t need any prior setup or risk having trouble knowing when someone else has read your message. Although disabling read receipt is the official method, so you might wanna stick to it if you don’t like shady methods.
