Leaked: New, Customizable Google Bar Search Widget
The Google search widget is one of the most popular visuals on Android smartphones. A bar on top which allows you to quickly look up fro things on Google. With the Google Pixel it got a refresh with the iconic G symbol. Google is now working on a new Google Bar – which is customizable.
The Google Bar was first spotted as a string of text inside the Google App’s code. However today, 9to5Google has posted a video which gives us a clear look at the Google Bar and all the customization options available.
The following piece of code has been spotted on the latest Google App:
<string name=”google_bar”>Google Bar</string>
<string name=”bar_color_title”>Bar color</string>
<string name=”bar_logo_title”>Bar logo</string>
<string name=”bar_shading_title”>Bar shading</string>
<string name=”bar_shape_title”>Bar shape</string>
This is a solid indicator of what is to follow. Let us take a closer look at each of these customization options and what they mean:
- Color: Users can now change the color of the Google Bar. It used to be white by default. However, users can now customize it as per their wish. Users can also choose between the multi-color G logo and voice icon or simple grey icons.
- Logo: Users can either make use of the full Google Logo or the newer ‘G’ logo.
- Transparency: In addition to the color of the Google Bar, users can also adjust the transparency between see-through and solid.
- Shape: There are a number of shapes that can be given to the Google Bar – the current oval shaped bar, one with rounded corners, rectangle, etc.
Interestingly, a new icon has been added to the logo – that of Google Lens. In the past there was only one option there – that of Mic. However it looks like Google really wants to push the Google Lens search technology as they are including it in the bar. Stay tuned with us for more updates on this.
