How To Link and Unlink Contacts on Android
Android has a cool link contacts feature that usually gets ignored as it does most of its job automatically. The link contacts feature allows you to merge multiple numbers or contact information of a person under a single contact name to avoid clutter and offer quick access. For example, you can link the phone number, email address, WhatsApp, and Facebook account of your friend under a single contact name.
By default, your Android phone automatically links other information like Gmail address or WhatsApp account with the contact number if possible. So in most cases, you don’t have to manually link contacts on Android. However, sometimes your phone may not be able to link a contact’s information if the number is not connected to the other service; such as Gmail. Furthermore, you might also like to manually link a contact if a contact has more than one number.
If you are ready to link contacts in Gmail to decrease the clutter, then keep reading and I’ll show how to both link and unlink contacts on Android.
How to link contacts on Android
As long as you have an Android phone running Android 4.4 KitKat or above, you should be able to use the link contacts feature on your phone. Here’s how to use it:
Open up the “Contacts” app on your phone. You can also open the “Phone” app, but make sure you move to the list of contacts section.
Now tap on the contact you like to link to open its details, and then tap on the menu button at the top-right corner and select “Link” from it. If the contact already has another linked contact, then the button will say “View linked contacts” instead.
Your list of contacts will open up along with a suggestions list that matches the name of the selected contact. Just scroll and tap on the contact you want to link and it will be linked.

If you want to link another contact to this contact, tap the menu button again and select “View linked contacts” from it. Afterward, tap on the “ADD” button to add another contact.

How to unlike contacts on Android
If for some reason wrong contacts have been linked, you can easily unlink them from the contacts app.
Tap on the contact to open its details and then tap on the main menu at the top-right corner and select “View linked contacts”.
Now tap on the “Unlink” button and all the contacts will be unlinked. Depending on your phone manufacturer and Android version, it might be possible to unlink an individual contact instead of unlinking them all at once.

Wrapping up
I personally utilize this feature to link my contacts who own more than one number. This makes it easier to search them and tap on one of the numbers I want to call. However, I am sure it can be used for other purposes as well. For example, you can also link the contact numbers of different employees of a service provider under a single name. Do let us know in the comments how you’ll be using this feature on your Android phone.
The thing I see asked over and over and over again, so many times you’d think Google would get a clue and add this functionality to Android, is “How do I go unlink ALL my contacts.” I have duplicates I would delete if I knew they existed. It is not practical to go out to 1000 contacts and go to the linked contacts menu on all of them. I could manually link the 1 or 2 I actually want to link. Delete & restore is not an option/answer. Some fool of a Verizon tech thought they would do me a favor and have my phone sync to Gmail & Yahoo. Totally messed up my phone. I’ve turned that off, but the synched entries are still in my phone. If I delete them, it doesn’t just remove the from my phone – it goes out and deletes them from Gmail, which deletes them from my wife’s phone! I need to unlink them all in order to find and fix them and I don’t want to spend the next 6 months hunting down and unlinking them.
I absolutely agree with Garry! I went through all my contacts unlinking them with Samsung information after every Samsung update. Switched to Google Pixel and now it is the same issue except with Duo. I unlink, however, then my only option is to add that contact separately or else I cannot unlink, then I have to go and delete that new contact. Seriously, extremely frustrating and exhaustively time-consuming. Although I noticed none of my contacts that have iPhones auto-link – just Android ones. UGHHHH!
I agree with Garry
And where is the link functionality in Android 11?
I wont to from google account to my phone linking contact
