Should You Google Breaking News of Michael Jackson’s Death?

Not only in the entertainment industry, Michael Jackson death has been interesting time to observe Google results and social media reaction.

Ars Technica, reports that News sites, Facebook, Twitter, iTunes and even Google were crushed by the massive and sudden spike if traffic. Between 6,000 to 13,000 tweets per minute were observed informing MJ’s sudden death.

Google was so surprised to see such a huge search for death of MJ that it misunderstood it for automated attack. As a result, visitors on Google News readers saw “We’re sorry” page for half an hour for any news related to MJ.

The worst case is Google answering queries based on Wikipedia. Brand Google is so trustable but it choose to rely on user editable Wiki. According to Google, Michael Jackson died in 2007 as depicted by following picture.

Google was lagging in breaking news coverage, it’s still ahead of Bing.We have always trusted Google for its search capabilities and breaking news is just a different case.Though it is not intuitive and sometimes takes automated precautions to safeguard itself but Google’s trustworthiness and potential cannot be denied.
