Coming Soon: A Google Translate Music Tour Ft. Vita Bergen
Popular Swedish indie-pop music group, Vita Bergen are all set to embark on an interesting journey – they are going to translate their Swedish lyrics into English, Spanish and French – and will perform in three different cities. This is a first of it’s kind project and a really ambitious move from Google!
The idea here is to have their songs translated entirely using nothing but Google Translate and see if this works out well with the audiences. Google’s translation tools have been getting smarter by the day – but can they actually do something like this?
Google translate has been around for eleven years now and Google wants to take things to the next level with this Music Tour with Vita Bergen. The company says in a blog post that the reason they chose this band is because Sweden has given a number of popular bands which have made it big in English such as Abba and the Cardigans. Even Avicii is Swedish. Google continues to take things forward with Vita Bergen and their Google Translate Music Tour.
The band will be performing their new song, Tänd Ljusen in these countries. This is the song that has been chosen to be translated using Google Translate.
Google Translate moved from being a phrase-based translation service to becoming a neural translation service – helping make the sentences appear more natural and fluid. Google has been working on translation technology quite a bit as the recently released Google Pixel Buds too, featured a lot of translation features.
The release event can be live streamed here on YouTube. It will be interesting to see the reaction to these songs based purely on Google Translate. Can this possibly help Vita Bergen become the next major Swedish name to make it big internationally? What are your views on this bold experiment from Google? Comment below and let us know!
