Chrome OS Dev Channel Gets Automatic Night Light Mode
While many users might consider Chrome OS an afterthought, Google certainly does not think so. The company has been coming out with a number of updates and upgrades for this OS of theirs of late. Over this week itself, Google introduced an update which would bring new settings for closing the lid of a Chromebook. Today, a new update begun to roll out for Chrome OS Dev Channel as well as the Canary Channel, where users would get the night light mode.
What is the Night Light Mode?
The Night Light mode was introduced by Google with the Android Nougat OS. This brings in a red-tinted background to the display, making it easier for the eyes to adjust post sunset hours. This also makes it more comfortable to use the Chrome OS devices at night as it negates the blue light and helps reduce strain on the eyes.
This is similar to f.lux, or the blue shade mode on kindle. Of late the night light mode is being adapted to various other places too. Lineage OS introduced something similar with their LiveDisplay feature, Microsoft too adapted this in a recent Windows 10 OS update.
Night Light mode has been built after quite some research. This research is especially pointed towards how the red tint helps the users sleep better. This is because of this tint, the use of the display does not interfere with sleep patterns. While this has been proven to be quite a useful feature, sometimes it can interfere with your work. This is true in case of those users who work with colors as the colors on the display will appear distorted due to the red tint on top.
How to Enable Night Light Mode on Chrome OS Dev Channel?
The Night Light Mode can be enabled by going to display settings. Over there, the users can find options of
- Enabling or Disabling the night light mode.
- Adjusting the tint – how “warm” do you want the display to be.
- Setting up a schedule of when the night lights should turn on automatically. Users could select a custom time or let Google decide based on the sunset and sunrise hours.
