Prevent Google Plus Profile from Appearing in Search

By default, your Google+ profile is accessible by search engines like Google, Bing and others. This makes it easy for others trying to find you. However not everyone wants their profile to be indexed or searchable through a search engine. If you feel the same, you can easily prevent search engines from crawling your profile with a little setting change on your profile page.

If you want to avoid your profile to show up in search results, just follow these steps:

  • Login into your Google+ account and go to your profile page
  • Click on the blue Edit Profile button seen on the top right
  • Scroll to bottom of page and you should see the Profile discovery setting, click on it.

  • Uncheck the option ‘Help others discover my profile in search results’ and click the Save button

  • Finally save your profile changes by clicking on the Done editing button

That’s it! Now search engines won’t be able to search and index your profile.

Note:
  • If your profile already appears in a search engine, it might take a while for the it to be removed.
  • This setting won’t hide publicly posted posts, comments or your posts shared by others.

Find and Remove Inactive Users in your Google+ Circles

uncircle from google plusUncircle+ is a new Chrome extension that allows you to quickly find and remove inactive users from your Google+ Circles. This is an easy way to clean up your Circles and have more room to add new interesting people.

How to use Uncircle+?

  • Install Uncircle+ from its page on Chrome Web Store.
  • Once installed, you should see the new Uncircle+ icon in the browser toolbar. Click on it.
  • Now Uncircle+ will open up in a new tab and do an initial scan of all people you have in your Circles. If you have circled many people, this can take a few minutes to complete. You can see scan progress in the activity box at the top.
  • Once complete, it will populate the “All People In Your Circles” box with all found users. The “I” seen in the activity box mean Inactive, “E” means Error, and active users are indicated with “.”(dots).

  • Now, click on “Find Inactive People!” to find users with no posts at all on Google+. Again, this may take some time depending on the number of people you have in your Circles. If you want, you can stop the scan in between by clicking on the “Stop Finding!” button.
  • After the scan gets done, you will find all inactive users in the “Inactive People” box. From here you can select the users you wish to remove and click “Remove selected” to complete the process.

  • Removed users are shown in the “Removed Successfully From All Circles” box.

You can repeat this process anytime you wish to weed out more unwanted users.

Install: Uncircle+

Additional Tip: Use Untweeps or Twitoria to find and unfollow inactive people on Twitter.

Google Plus Desktop Gadget for Windows 7: G+7

gp7 google plus gadgetG+7 is a beautiful desktop gadget from Kalamon Softwares for Windows 7 which constantly provides you information from your Google Plus home stream. It saves you the effort for opening the browser each time to check for friend’s updates.

G+7 offers multiple option for viewing Google+ message feeds. Once you install it from the official Microsoft Gadget Gallery, you will have to login into your Google account from the Options. From the Options menu you can also change size, position and opacity of the gadget.

This gadget also offers you to change the update frequency of the home stream updates. We recommend not keeping it too low else, it will consume majority of resources. Double clicking on any friend update will open it in new window with more details and comments. Additionally you can click View Online to view it in a browser window (as shown in below picture).

Make Google Plus Profile Banner Images

Google plus is somewhat similar to facebook [see Google plus vs Facebook Infographic]. Both of them have profile picture gallery or banner at the top of about page that you can use cleverly to make nice effects. This is an easy way to beautify your profile page and make it more attractive.

You can use these free tools to decorate your profile page with continuous banner –

This simple tool is fairly easy to use. All you have to do is upload an image from your computer and or from any URL and then crop the image. The only downside is that the last image will contain bannerplus logo.

Update – Another online tool was removed from this list due to request made by Bannersplus owner Steve. According to him -

The other website was a complete rip off of BannersPlus. Just three days after I launched my website, I found that they mirrored the HTML, CSS, and down to the Javascript, which was the main component of the functionality. The reason they haven’t added the watermark is because that is handled by my PHP script, which is not copy and pastable.

#. Create images manually
If you want to be more creative then you can manually create these profile pictures to showcase them in your profile. All you need is five 125×125 pixels continuous boxes. This counts for 625x125px large image. Use png or psd from here as overlay image for making perfext square boxes.

I would personally recommend online tools, which make this work hassle free, and banner can be easily made out from a single image.

How to use pictures in a continuous fashion for making a perfect banner

1) Download or make 5 perfect images on your computer.

2) Go to your Google Plus Profile and start editing.

3) At top you will find Add some photos here section.

4) Start uploading your images and you are done.

Check out my profile and circle me as your friend.
